Sunday, time for comfort food.

There is something so comforting about cold weather baking, from scratch chicken pot pie, straight from the oven is one of the best!  I love making the biscuits and Mr. Outdoors is so appreciative it makes it all worthwhile!  Made an extra pan, minus the biscuits and froze it for another day.  My fav biscuit recipe comes from "Pioneer Woman", if you haven't tried that recipe, check it out.  Mr. Outdoors tells me that biscuit recipe would also be good with sausage gravy...we will be trying that soon....smile.

The last of the garden for 2012

Mr. Outdoors picked the last of the tomatoes before the freeze last night. Lots of fresh salsa and BLT's in our future.....fried green tomatoes too!  We had our first hard freeze and winter is on it's way!   Spicy Saturday!

Faithful companion....

Our black lab "Champ" hangs close to the back door waiting for me to hang out another load of laundry knowing he will get a treat when I come out....LOL.  His beard is turning grey now but he is still full of energy and so playful, you dare not drop a piece of laundry or he is off with it!

Stitching every day....

Working every day to get this wedding quilt finished for Granddaughter and her husband.  Hand quilting takes me a long time to do but so worth the effort I think.  In lieu of a guest book said Granddaughter had wedding guests sign a quilt block, it has been challenging to bring it all together quilting wise as some wrote on every inch of the block and some did not.  Nearly 3/4 the way done now and I can't wait to remove it from the quilt frame and see how it looks.  Backing is Prince charming and Cinderella...so appropriate for them.  When he proposed he wore a knight in shining armor suit, sweetest proposal ever! Sweet Sunday!

Tomatoes are still producing....

Our garden is still putting out tomatoes for us!  Fried green tomatoes are one of our favorites.....and slicing the red ones with onions and vinaigrette on top is so good.  If the freeze holds off this may go on for awhile...I need to be canning some green tomato pickles as we go along into fall here.  Lots of rain last night and this morning...much needed for sure.  Putting the cuffs on the crochet sweater....almost time to block it...yea!  Fantastic Friday!

Granny sweater

Doing some crochet.....make a hexagon granny square...can you see where this is going...fold tip to tip.  Stitch shoulder and back seams and I will put an edge all the way around.  My sis found this on Pinterest and hers is taupe...goes really fast.  When it is in the beginning stages a childs size is another option...make any size you want.  Another Christmas idea!  Wishful Wednesday!

1940's apron

This past weekend while my sisters and I were at an estate sale we came across an old trunk in a barn.  Being the curious girls we are we started pulling out the contents of said trunk.  Low and behold we found this darling white muslin apron, very fragile and well worn.  I paid $3.00 for our find and came home and took it apart and made me one.  Slips over your head, keeps your front covered and will save my shirts from cooking splatters.  My great Aunties had some just like this......just love a good find!  I will be making some of these for Christmas gifts.  Telling Tuesday!

Jadeite...Alice pattern

My sisters and I went to an estate sale yesterday and this is my buy of the day. I love the color of Jadeite and have collected a few pieces over the years.  I got 18 saucers and 16 cups for $32.00..that's less than a dollar apiece, just simply a bargain I couldn't overlook.  The weather was very cold and windy but we persevered.  Love the green!

Carolina Lily coming together

I started this quilt in February...can you believe it is october and I am just now putting it together.  I have done quite a bit of embroidery and it has taken me awhile.  I haven't decided on the borders as of yet but am thinking of going with the reds...maybe flying geese?  Or maybe not....there is a lot going on within the quilt so maybe I will just go with a large border in one of the reds.  THe main fabric is french linen and i am anxious to hand quilt and see how it does.  I think a semi-heavy batting is in order, it will be a heavy quilt I know, it is already heavy with out the backing and batting.  I am still hand quilting Granddaughters wedding quilt and I must get to done by Christmas.....so for now the lily quilt will hang in our bedroom where I can gaze upon it every day and decide what border I want. Frigid Friday here in Kansas...winter clothes came out of storage today!

Fall is here!

I have finished 12 pints of the orange marmalade and we do like it!  The second batch I processed the fruit in the food processor before cooking and it is so much better than leaving the big pieces. Def a keeper recipe for me.  October came in just as sweet and gentle as one would expect.....we are loving these cool temps and soft breezes!  Time to be thinking about putting away summer clothes and bringing out the winter ones, some parts of Kansas had freezing temps this morning.  October 2nd today and my big sis's birthday, we will celebrate with a family dinner tomorrow evening.  I am baking meatloaf, steak strips, green beans, corn, mashed potatoes and gravy.  Add homemade bread and pumpkin birthday cake and ice cream.  Sister is 66 years old today and is a Blessing to all of us. Terrific Tuesday!
