I spy quilts

Finished up the two "I spy" quilts i've been working on.  They are on their way to two precious little boys, hope they enjoy them!    My sister gave me enough blocks to do a couple more..hmmmm..someday great-grandchildren.....always nice to have some baby quilts made up......you just never know...smile.

Teapot Tuesday

I simply love the color "Robins egg blue".  These are a couple of my favorites!  We have snow this morning!  Maybe 3" on the ground and still coming down.  My sis drove in from Halstead yesterday, made it in the nick of time, beating the snow by a few hours.  There will be lots of sewing going on, she always brings her sewing machine and lots of fun fabrics and patterns.  I am still working on my Carolina lily blocks but am almost finished with the appliqué....about 60 leaves to go....and I can began adding strips and borders.  That is the fun part, putting the blocks together to see the end result.  One thing for sure this quilt will be colorful!  I am toying with the idea of putting a sleeve on the back and hanging it on the farmhouse living room wall when it's done...we'll see.  I'm calling this Teapot Tuesday...have a cupa and enjoy the day!!!

Lemon Garlic salad dressing.

My Grandaughter and I spent some time in Chicago, we sampled a lot of great restaurants while we were there.  One that stands out is Lou Mancheti's pizza parlor.  The salad comes to you in a huge bowl tossed and dressed, thats where this dressing comes in.  My family LOVES garlic, probably in every way shape and form.  The salad we got a Lous was tossed with this dressing, and salad has never been the same.  Ha! It's not exactly the same but pretty darn close.

Colonial girl

I seem to have a thing for busts and statues.  I found this sweet colonial girl bust in a Colorado thrift shop for a whopping $10.00.  She sits on the fireplace mantle and it seems she was made for that spot...love the look of her.  The day I found her I was out for a walk, no way to wrap her up so I carried her home under my arm, dusted her off, polished her up and she has been on the mantle ever since.  Oh yes and for holidays she has been know to wear a ribbon or two...smile.  Have a marvelous Monday!

Whole grain is best!

Found the best pancake ever....whole grain and two 4" pancakes yield 8g protein and 5g fiber.  Top with a pat of butter and pure maple syrup...... yummy!  These keep you full for a long time and nourishing too!  Oh yes 170calories, 3g fat and 20% of your daily calcium.  Cook up a bunch, put in fridge and when you need a good snack it's there waiting for you.  Have a fabulous Friday!  Sunny Gunny today, I see a long walk in my future!

I-spy quilts

I am working on a couple of I-SPY quilts.  Sister Linda has given me the blocks already cut out.....she has the best fabric stash ever!  Linda has made 7 of these so far and was so sweet to ask me if I had anyone I would like to make some for...well I do.  These are great learning tools for the little ones, everything from ABC's to footballs to jelly beans to cows.... on and on.  It is a quilt you can put together in a couple hours...took me longer to baste them ( the old knees aren't what they used to be LOL) for machine quilting than the actual sewing part.  Wish I would have known about these when my boys were little ones.  Have a wonderful Wednesday!!

Snow day

We had snow all morning, then the sun came out and the fluffy stuff went away.  I walked to the bank and post office in the snow...so pretty and peaceful.

Applique

Working on my appliqué, the bay window affords great light for these eyes of mine.  Terrific Tuesday!

Ready to be quilted

This one is ready to be quilted,  I have made three in this pattern, very simple and sweet.  A good take along appliqué block with a yoyo center in the flower.  I really need to look into finding someone who machine quilts, there is no way I will ever get all my quilts hand quilted. Reminds me of a quilt my Grandmother would make.  Happy Sunday!

My girl from Taos

Mr. Outdoors bought my girl statue for me over 20 years ago in Taos, New Mexico.  She was in the back of a pottery shop covered in dirt and dust.  We were traveling at the time and she rode many miles with us wrapped up in a blanket to protect her from being chipped or broken.  Thanks honey!

Turkey Reds!

The turkey reds have arrived in my quilt shop.  Like someone said they just don't come around that often.....grab em while you can!  Right now only the charm packs are available in my shop but i have my name on the list when the bolts arrive...they call.  Yea!  At first i thought the paisley pattern was my favorite but after seeing all of the "reds"  I love them all!  Whats a girl to do?!  LOL  Don't you just love Moda?  I sure do!

A day of Travel to the high country

Spent the day traveling to our Colorado home, normally it takes 10 to 11 hours to make the drive but it was a whopping 12 hours today.  I forgot my sewing machine.....drat!!...so  stopped to buy one... will leave it at the house in Colorado.  Mr. Outdoors said...did you do that on purpose so you could get a new machine? I really really didn't..just too many things to pack is my excuse and i'm sticking to it! LOL  BUT it will be nice to not be lugging mine up here every time we come up.  Was a wonderful drive thru the plains and mountains...lots of snow in the higher elevations, the roads were good all the way.  This is a December picture so there is quite a lot more snow on the mountains now and lots of skiing going on and saw several snowmobiles also.  A BIG Thank You to our neighbor Eric for cleaning the snow off our driveway.....very much appreciated!

Carolina Lily update

I am making progress on my Carolina lily blocks.....will do the flower pots at the bottom of each appliqué block when they are all done.  Half of my linen fabric (block) is lighter than the other half, I am planning on putting the lighter blocks in the center and working out with the darker.  Making a total of 36 blocks, going with med brown and white polka dot flower pots, corner stones and flying geese border.  Very foggy in our part of the world this morning, the snow has all but melted and the next 5 days weather is to be in the 50's.  Mildest winter I can ever remember, hope this means a nice cool summer for us...smile.  Happy Wednesday...enjoy this glorious day!

Mother natures handiwork

Woke up to a beautiful snow, all the trees were sprinkled with fluffy powder, Mother Nature was busy last night.  Our day ended with a superb sunset, my pictures don't do it justice, take my word for it..awesome!

Sewing with my Sisters

My sisters came out yesterday for a day of sewing.  I have an older sister and a younger sister...yep i'm the dreaded middle child! LOL  We had a great day, baby sister is working on crochet socks and they are darn cute!  Love the yarn!  Older sister is making postage stamp sized blocks from vintage scraps w/ 64 blocks in each segment, she does great stitching!  And I am appliquéing my Carolina lilies ( all the flowers and stems are done YEA!!!)  We spent the better part of our day just eating and talking and laughing and sewing, enjoying each others company.  They headed for home just after dark and it's a good thing they left when they did, a winter storm came in with lots of snow and wind.  Happy Monday..enjoy this day!

A gift to my Mother from her Mother probably in the 50's or 60's.  I am not familiar with this type of bubble glass, Moms sister has a purple one just like it.  Beautiful!

Green pin cushion

Sweet little pin cushion my sister made me for Christmas,  She knows I love green!  The top is a beautiful antique button and the lace around the cushion is also antique,  oh and the plate it sits on is beautiful!  Can you tell I just love it...LOL!

Fenton vase

Sweet little Fenton vase I inherited from my Aunts @ Humboldt.  Don't you just love Fenton?  I have seen this vase before in blue and pink but never in green and you know how I love my green glass!

New lamp

Picked up my lamp yesterday and it just fit right into the scheme of things in the dining room.  Goes with my colors and style so well.  And it is huge!  I bet it weighs 7 or 8 lbs. very substantial and sooo pretty.  At $29.00 I think I got a buy!

Ice Bucket

This green depression ice bucket was a wedding gift to my Grandparents in the early 1900's.  I love all of the depression glass but the green is my favorite!

Grandmothers embroidery

These pictures were done by my Grandmother J in the early 1900's, my Dad had them framed in the 60's. I love having them in my home and they make me think of Grandma every time i see them.  I have always thought someday i will do an appliqué replica of them.
