I-spy Quilt

Can you believe December already?!  The tree is up but no decorations yet, on my to do list.  We still are having warmish weather, 50's most days but they say cooler, much colder is on it's  way.   Thanksgiving was so much fun.....Thursday with our Family at our son's house and Saturday following was at Granddaughters house in KC.  We got lots of smooches from our new Great Grandson.  He is growing like a weed!  At 11 weeks old he is wearing 6 month sized clothes!  Such a sweet baby boy, we love him so much!  There is a I-spy quilt in the works for him for Christmas, fun to put together and almost ready to quilt. 100 different blocks, they make so many fun fabrics. Hope your day is a good one!

Pug Quilt.....

Just finished this little (48x48) baby quilt for my dear friend's daughter.  It was a fun quilt to do and I made it a quilt-as-you-go which cut down my quilting time a bunch.  Said daughter has two pug dogs and the baby's room has some dog "theme" going on so I went with the appliquéd pugs and dog bones.

Where Did Summer Go............

Sometimes life just takes over, no other reason for not blogging for this long.   Our Family has been Blessed with the sweetest baby boy, our first great grandchild.  He is adorable and sweet and soft and cuddly, well, you get the picture.  Mr. Outdoors and I are so loving this baby boy, just can't get enough snuggles!  Summer went by in a flash didn't it?  We are spending some time in Colorado getting in the last of trout fishing before old man winter decides to join us.  Every year we plan to spend some time in Arizona come February and it never seems to work out, maybe this year we can do that?  Always good to have something to look forward to.  I have always heard it's best to have three thing's after you retire....someone to love, something to do and something to look forward to.  We seem to be pretty spot on in that department.  Here are some of our happy moments from this past few months. First picture is great grandpa and grandpa with our newest Family member.  Happy Fall!

Quilt As You Go.........

Have you ever done "quilt-as-you-go?"  I have done several log cabins, nine patch's and love the process.  When you are done sewing your quilting is done also.  This is a different take on quilt as you go and I really like the effect.  Depending on how you place the blocks, several patterns here.  Would be a quick and easy baby quilt, tho I would make the fabrics strips narrower for a baby quilt.  Happy Thursday!

Mobile.........

Granddaughter had seen a mobile she liked for the baby's crib, well really it will hang from the ceiling over the crib.  She didn't want anything attached to the crib, smart Mama she is.  I made stuffed safari animals, attached them to dowel rods with small twine and added some primary color balls.  The one she really liked was much smaller, like baby safari animals (esty for sale $182.00!).  I tried to downsize them but once you had sewn the smaller 3" animals they were impossible to turn right side out, for me anyway.  Sooo this is what I wound up with, and I told her my feelings will not be hurt if they don't use it.  She assures me it is great, but as you know Granddaughters are sweet that way.

Time Flies!

Wow, last post was May 11, summer has flown by for me.  Lots of good stuff going on around the farm and Colorado too.  With our Great grand baby due to arrive at the end of August, two baby showers have been so fun!  We had one where everyone painted a onesie for the new little guy and they turned out so cute!  Getting to see an old school friend I haven't seen for 20 years was such a delight!  Our 50th class reunion was in June, we were unable to attend but did receive a great book telling of what everyone is up to these days.  After driving my husbands trucks for the last ten months I got a new to me car and I love it! vroom vroom!  The garden is producing wonderfully this year and I have done a little canning with more in my future.  A few months back I got a pressure cooker, small one for roasts, beans ect.  I love that thing!  Brown rice in 7 minutes, pinto beans in an hour (best beans ever)!  I have only ever had one for canning, this is perfect for everyday cooking and it's super fast.  Everything I have been working on craft wise for the ggbaby is finished and his room is all set and ready for his arrival.  They say a picture says a thousand words so i'll let mine do the talking......hope your summer is awesome!

Small Baby Quilt.....

Got a finish on this small quilt for our Great-grandson. Big stitch quilting with cotton floss #8, something different and goes really fast.  Quilt top is grey squares and bottom side is for him to dream of trout fishing with Great-gpa and me.  We are having lots of rain and cooler temps here in Kansas.  Garden is almost all planted if it ever stops raining we can plant the rest.  Always Thankful for all the rain we get, ponds are full and fish are biting!   Happy Friday!

April's Musings......

April is in full swing, spending some time in Colorado and getting a lot of sewing, knitting and embroidery done.  At the farm the forget-me-nots are blooming, so love them!  Most unusual bird from my FB photography group, yellow headed blackbirds.  Evidently they migrate thru Kansas, aren't they pretty!

Moving Day.......

#2 son moved into his new home yesterday.  Our granddaughter and hubby came to help and between my hubby and them and said son we got it all done. We had Rib eye steaks, baked potato's, salad and garlic bread on the new patio, we were all starving! LOL  A beautiful sunny day for the move and great companionship with our sweet Famiy.  Latter that evening blueberry cheesecake french toast and lots of coffee.  The house is a mid-century modern and it fits him so well, perfect in every way, just like him.

Sunday Funday......

Found the cutest buttons for this kelly green sweater.  Baby sweaters are so fun to knit, they work up really fast and are so stinkin cute!  Looking forward to seeing it on our soon to arrive great grandson.  Easter lily from #2 son, smells like spring.....

Happy Easter!

We got quite the surprise this fine Easter morning.....snow!  Have a Blessed Easter!

Two Years!

Having finally finished this quilt, two years in the making!  King size takes me a very long time!  I really don't hand quilt that fast. One should not even attempt to do this if it takes so long.  All the other quilt tops that were made the last two years are piling up....big time!  So onward I will go, trying to decide which quilt to load up in my quilt frame next, believe me when I say it def won't be king size....lol.

Cold Snap.....

With the peach and cherry trees in bloom now is not a good time for this cold snap we are having.  This a.m. it is 22 degrees!  We covered all the trees, my roses and the rhubarb, hopefully they will be ok.   On a lighter note I found this beautiful mirror on sale at Lowe's.  The original price was $75.00, markdown price was $11.00.  They were all sold out except the display model.  I asked the clerk if they would sell it to me and "sure" he said.  He proceeded to mark thru the $11.00 price and wrote in $5.00 because it was the display model.  I sure do love it!  It will be going to #2 son who has bought a new home, it will be perfect in his mid-century decor!  Happy Saturday!

Early Spring....

Our peach trees are in bloom.....the cherry trees aren't too far behind.   This is really an early spring, hoping the chance of frost is behind us.  The rhubarb has sprung up overnight after a good soaking of rain last night and today.   I am ready to be puttering around in the garden.  We have been trying to eat up most of last years canning tomatoes and salsa, you know tomato season will be here before we know it.  Happy Sunday!

MCC Scrap Quilt....

The MCC gathers scraps of fabric and bundles them up for people to make quilts for next years blitz.  I picked up a bag of scraps on my way out the other day and here is the end result.  I read on their website that last year 45,000 quilts were made and distributed all over the world.  They prefer twin size 60x80.

Quilt Blitz

My sister and I attended the MCC (Mennonite Central Committee) quilting blitz yesterday.   My first time to go and it was fun to do.  They do this every year around the first of March, tying as many quilt tops as possible in 3 days.  These quilts go all over the world to people in need.  It is quite the operation to see.  One end of the room has women putting the quilt tops, batting and backing onto quilt frames, another group is putting the quilts onto the quilt stands while others are tying the quilts.  When they are tied another group of women are sewing on the bindings.  Yesterday they started and completed 105 quilts.  Lunch was served and snacks were provided along with coffee and tea.  These women work all year putting together quilt tops and backs to ensure they have everything ready for the blitz.  There are kits put together to take home with you if you wish to sew some quilt tops for next year's blitz.  This isn't only for Mennonite women but for like minded women of all religions to work together for the good of other people.

Art Work....

Some art work from #2 son.  He has some really good thoughts here....do what you love and do it often.....apologize when you should......success is not the key to happiness, happiness is the key to success.  I have always thought he has the wisdom of someone who has lived a long and wondrous life.  Love him so much.
