Quilt Blitz

My sister and I attended the MCC (Mennonite Central Committee) quilting blitz yesterday.   My first time to go and it was fun to do.  They do this every year around the first of March, tying as many quilt tops as possible in 3 days.  These quilts go all over the world to people in need.  It is quite the operation to see.  One end of the room has women putting the quilt tops, batting and backing onto quilt frames, another group is putting the quilts onto the quilt stands while others are tying the quilts.  When they are tied another group of women are sewing on the bindings.  Yesterday they started and completed 105 quilts.  Lunch was served and snacks were provided along with coffee and tea.  These women work all year putting together quilt tops and backs to ensure they have everything ready for the blitz.  There are kits put together to take home with you if you wish to sew some quilt tops for next year's blitz.  This isn't only for Mennonite women but for like minded women of all religions to work together for the good of other people.
